Fiesta® San Antonio Commission Unveils Official Fiesta 2018 Poster

SAN ANTONIO (November 1, 2017) – Hundreds of members and guests of the Fiesta San Antonio Commission gathered tonight to see the unveiling of the Official 2018 Fiesta San Antonio Poster – the ONE to celebrate ALL the Alamo City has to offer. Of the 18 submissions received from San Antonio area artists, one design by one artist is selected as the official art of Fiesta 2018.

Local artist, Suzan Browning’s design was unveiled tonight at The Mays Family Center at the Witte Museum. Suzan’s oldest daughter Taylor Bates, who works at Artpace, saw the information about the poster design contest and knew that every year her mother always says, “I should create a Fiesta poster design.” Taylor encouraged her to submit a design as “this would be a great year to enter due to being San Antonio’s Tricentennial.” The challenge had been set and Suzan created and submitted her poster design, inspired by the Mexican folk art tradition of Papel Picado.

The official 2018 poster and poster merchandise (t-shirts, limited edition medal and more) are available online (dev-fiestasanantonio.mystagingwebsite.com) and at The Fiesta Store® beginning at 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. November 2. The Fiesta Store is located at 2611 Broadway, San Antonio, TX 78215 and hours of operation are Monday – Thursday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Fridays, 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.

Suzan Browning is a freelance graphic designer who lives in San Antonio, Texas. She has a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Design Communications and a minor in Illustration from Texas Tech University in Lubbock, Texas.

“I started drawing in elementary school and my parents just encouraged me…Instead of buying a greeting card, my mom at times, would make me create a birthday card for a friend or relative” said Suzan. “That encouragement resulted in my love for greeting card design.”

Suzan has 15 years of experience as an illustrator in the greeting card industry and was an Art Director with The Drawing Board in Dallas. Her work has been produced and published by Current, Inc., Carlton Cards, American Greetings, Hallmark, Marcel Schurman, and Gibson Greetings. Suzan’s experience in the greeting card world inspired her to start her own creative business called Rumble Ranch Design, where she designs and sells greeting cards and notepads. Suzan has also illustrated several series of pre-school Children’s books for various publishers.
