Event Details

The El Rey Fido (ERF) Coronation became an official Fiesta event in 2014, but the ERF tradition has been carried on since its humble beginnings in 2002. This annual celebration is the culmination of months of vigorous fundraising by local participants and their canine pets to raise the most for the dogs and cats at the San Antonio Humane Society (SAHS). This dog-friendly event is carried out in true Fiesta spirit, from folklórico dances to vivid royal canine attire. Costumed pooches are encouraged! The highlight of the day: the presentation of El Rey Fido (the doggie king/queen) and the canine Royal Court. These crowned and robed top-fundraising dogs walk the stage in honor of their dedication to the SAHS’s mission to protect and improve the lives of dogs and cats.

The SAHS is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, no-kill organization that has served Bexar County and surrounding areas since 1952. Every year, the SAHS shelters, medically treats, and rehabilitates approximately 5,000 animals. Through adoption, volunteer, foster, and educational programs, the SAHS reminds the public of the importance of responsible pet ownership. The SAHS is not affiliated with nor receives regular financial support from the Humane Society of the United States (HSUS) or the American Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA). The SAHS hopes to emphasize the importance of giving locally through events such as the ERF fundraising competition and Coronation.

Admission is free.
