San Antonio Queen of Soul Contestant Reception – March 10 at 7-9:30 pm
A contestant reception will present its contestants in an array of talent and entertainment. Each contestant will be presented to the attending guests and will speak giving a brief outline of their accomplishments and career goals.
• The community will meet the contestants for the first time, at the SAQOS, Inc., Reception.
• SAQOS, Inc. was formed in 1968.
• Clifton Davis actor and singer, rode on the Queen of Soul Float. He wrote “Never Can Say Goodbye” for the Jacksons.
• SAQOS, Inc. has been a Fiesta Commission member since 1974.
• First Queen of Soul was Libby Barksdale 1969-1971
• Our first President was Mrs. Gracie Griffin-Poe.
• Lou Rawls, three-time Grammy Award winning Singer, rode with Ms. Barksdale in her first Battle of Flowers Parade.
• SAQOS, Inc. held its 50th Anniversary Celebration in 2018. At that event Penny McCutchen- Gardner was crowned “Queen Mother”.
• SAQOS, Inc. supports Educational Achievement through our Annual Scholarship Pageant.
• Longest serving Active QOS board member is John “Buddy” Gardner.
