The Navy’s presence within the Joint Base San Antonio (JBSA) area is anchored by several critical commands focused on medical readiness, training, and information warfare.
The Naval Medical Forces Development Command, headquartered at JBSA-Fort Sam Houston, serves as the Navy’s strategic lead for developing all medical training and education policies, overseeing subordinate units like the Navy Medicine Training Support Command, which trains thousands of hospital corpsmen. Additionally, the Naval Medical Research Unit – San Antonio conducts essential biomedical research for warfighter health, while Navy Talent Acquisition Group San Antonio is responsible for recruiting new Sailors across Central and South Texas.
The Naval Technical Training Center Detachment – Lackland contributes significantly by providing specialized training for Navy Security Forces and Military Working Dog handlers. Finally, the Naval Information Operations Command – Texas and its detachments at JBSA-Lackland provide advanced training in Information Warfare disciplines like cryptology, intelligence, and cyber operations, supporting fleet readiness by projecting information dominance. Go Navy, Hooyah!
