The stunning fabric art showcased at Lutheran Coronation is handcrafted by participants themselves with the support of their families and community.

The artists who design the gowns are dedicated volunteers.
Each court includes both legacy and first-generation participants, all with an equal opportunity to be elected Queen or Princess the following year.
Founded in the 1950s, Lutheran Coronation began as an event for Lutheran young women and has since grown into a celebration welcoming young women and men from many Christian backgrounds.
Most participants have no prior experience with this type of art-handicraft skills are taught by Lutheran Coronation Board members.
The Queen and Princess are elected by their peers and create a new gown for the following year’s court.
Inspired by the deep sea and outer space, designs feature elements like planets, stingrays, solar flares, whales, and the Overview Effect.
While the gowns may look costly, they are made affordable because the artwork is created by families rather than professional artists. These works are displayed in more than a dozen San Antonio and South Texas parades, reaching hundreds of thousands of viewers each year.
Lutheran Coronation builds relationships, celebrates Christian faith, and creates meaningful art for the San Antonio community.
