Airforce Day at the Alamo

Celebrate Airforce Day at The Alamo!

Youngest Branch of the Military
The Air Force was officially established on September 18, 1947, making it the youngest branch of the U.S. Armed Forces. Before that, it was part of the Army and known as the Army Air Corps.

Largest Air Force in the World
The U.S. Air Force operates the largest fleet of aircraft and has the most advanced technology compared to any other air force globally. It includes fighter jets, bombers, reconnaissance planes, and transport aircraft.

Space Beginnings
The Air Force was instrumental in the U.S. space program, contributing to the development of space exploration and satellite technology. Many early astronauts were Air Force pilots, including Buzz Aldrin and Gus Grissom.

It’s Not Just About Planes
The Air Force has a wide range of roles beyond piloting aircraft, including cyber operations, space command, engineering, and even band performances through the U.S. Air Force Band.

Air Force One
“Air Force One” isn’t a specific plane—it’s the radio call sign for any aircraft carrying the President of the United States. However, the specially equipped Boeing 747s designated for presidential use are among the most recognizable aircraft in the world.
